Dear Region 3 Citizens,

Mark your calendar for June 12th, 2024 and join us at the Senator Hotel in Timmins, Ontario for the first annual Region 3 Citizen Forestry Open House!

You will have the opportunity to engage directly with forestry experts, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, and fellow MNO citizens.  There will be prizes available for participation!

  • Expert Showcases: Forest management companies will display detailed insights into their operations, including maps of annual work schedules, forest management plans, aerial             herbicide applications, prescribed burns, and pest management activities. Learn about the          strategies employed to ensure the health and vitality of our forests!
  • Government Initiatives: The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) will be on hand to share information about their initiatives and policies in Forestry and other initiatives. Representatives from other government organizations may also be present, offering further perspectives and resources.
  • Community Engagement: This event is not just about information—it’s about fostering dialogue and collaboration. Your voice matters, and this is your chance to have your say in discussions about the future of forestry management in your region. Whether you have questions, concerns, or ideas, this is the forum to express them.
  • Networking Opportunities: Enjoy light refreshments as you network with Forestry professionals, government representatives, Forestry team of the MNO’s Lands, Resources and Consultations branch.

Little Harvesters Wildlife Insect Habitat Workshop

Families will have a unique opportunity to create a wildlife insect habitat for their own backyard and learn about what they can do to help insects such as bees and other pollinators. By placing these in your yard, you will help to create much needed habitat and in turn, will also be introducing more pollinators to help your flower and vegetable gardens.

This workshop will be led by Krista Dekker, Artist & Owner at Homebody Handmade. Because these techniques take time, we ask that you plan on attending for the duration (1-4pm). All materials and snacks will be provided.

Beaded Red Dress Pin Workshop

Honouring missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIWG). Red Dress Day was inspired in 2010 by Jamie Black, a Métis artist based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Red Dress Day, first observed in 2010, happens every May 5. The goal of the day is to honour and bring awareness to the thousands of Indigenous women and girls, and two-spirit people who have gone missing or who have been murdered.
